Rockland BOCES played an integral role in a recent conference focused on Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, known as DBT. Hosted by the Rockland County Department of Mental Health, Student Services Assistant Principal Maryclare Farrington, Psy.D. led a presentation titled, “Mindfulness in Education for a New Day: Applying DBT Skills in the Classroom Setting.”

Dr. Farrington’s keynote remarks were followed by a detailed panel discussion, which included Hilltop clinicians Laurie Kotten, Psy.D. and Jacqueline Pardy, LCSW and River View High School clinicians Evan Seidel, LCSW and Amy Stearns, LCSW.

Rockland County Executive Ed Day and Rockland County Legislator Harriett Cornell also delivered remarks during the 35th annual conference, held at the Stony Point Center.

DBT skills have been demonstrated to be effective in helping adolescents manage difficult emotional situations, cope with stress and make better decisions.
