In conversations with legislators and the Governor (yes, that’s right, the Governor) during Lobbying Day on March 2nd, BOCES students were very clear about the value of the programs offered here.

P-TECH student Jolie and River View High School student Anderson accompanied Chief Operating Officer Dr. Mary Jean Marsico, Electrical Trades teacher and BSA President Kevin Connell, P-TECH Principal Natasha Shea and Director of Communications Stephanie Gouss to BOCES Lobbying Day.

This annual day is an opportunity for state legislators to hear about how BOCES students are faring and ask for the legislators’ continued support by voting in favor of legislation that allows BOCES to fulfill its mission. It’s a wonderful opportunity for students to see firsthand how state government works and learn how certain legislation can impact education. In their own words students reminded the legislators and their aides that BOCES has provided them with a pathway to growth and success.

When walking from one meeting to the next, the group was fortunate enough to meet the Governor in the hallway, and seized the moment to speak about P-TECH and other programs. Hudson Valley P-TECH is one of the first P-TECHs launched under Governor Cuomo.
